ABC Wednesday - The Letter I

The Itsey Bitsey Spider

went up the chimney spout.

Down came the rain and washed the spider out.

Soon came the sun that dried up all the rain.

So the Itsey Bitsey Spider crawled up the spout again.

I met a friend at Mercy Center in Madison and we reflected upon one of his cartoon drawings of the "Eensie Weensie Spider" aka "Itsey Bitsey Spider".  There are many existential questions in this child's rthyme.  Why does the spider keep going up the same pipe only to be washed out?  What is he crawling towards or away from and why is he so persistent in his pursuit?  Is this merely a morbid tale about the futility of life?  Or is it a lesson in humility?  Do we have choices? The spider doesn't have to go up the same spout or any spout for that matter.  Why do some stay on the same destructive path while others make choices that effect change in their lives?  Hmmm, just something to think about on those rainy days.

Both of these photos were taken with my new Canon Rebel EOS T5i camera.  Loving it.  In the second photo the web was drowned out by the white clapboard side of the house.  I rather like it because it looks to me like a natural science illustration of a spider.  He was hanging on by a thread of web as they say.
