Whelk study

This whelk caught my eye at Killam's Point in Branford.  It wasn't washed or bleached out from the sun, it had this brilliant rust color as did the large rocks at the shore line.

Caterpillar Determination

I brought in two small bouquets of Marigolds and look who travelled in with them.  He was only 1/2 maybe and was very determined to cross from one bouquet to the other.  He gave it a good try a couple of times and then retreated but finally he got his 'stretch' on and made it over.  Res not great because it was my iPhone and enlarged but the best camera is the one that is at hand.

Frida's drawing table

I featured a shot similar to this on Facebook but I thought I'd show it again with some close ups.  Cynthia called it a communion table and I think she has it just about right.  There is something sacred about seeing an artist's work space, what he or she chooses to surround herself with.

I love the lone cowry shell sitting in the center of the pastels.

Casa Azul

This is the current exhibit at the New York Botanical Garden, Casa Azul, the home of Frida Kahlo and her husband Diego Rivera.  Both artists, and political activists their home in Mexico was filled with wild succulents and tons of color.  Marigolds dotted the pathway to the big step wall that you see below.

Meet Habacuc Avendano

Mr. Avendano is the head dyer for the Mixtec Weavers and Dyers of Oaxaca, Mexico.  The tixinda purple ink is taken from the endangered Purpura Pansa sea snail and is used to dye beautiful hand woven articles of clothing and fabric.  The dyers are members of the Cooperative de Tintoreros de Pinotepa de Don Luis, the only place where this traditional practice continues.
