Abbott's Lobster in the Rough

One last photo from the day trip all the way up the CT coast to the North Stonington Fair.  After going to the Thimble Islands, Guilford, and the Fair, at the suggestion of a friend we stopped in Noank for supper at Abbott's.  This was the BEST lobster roll that I've EVERh had.
The hot lobster roll was to die for, really.  You stand in line to put your order in, go inside to pick it up and you can either eat in or out.
Below is the view from the eating area.
Well worth the trip from anywhere!

Candy Tent

Love this photo that I took at the North Stonington Fair a few weekends ago.  Not that it's any award winning photo but because it reminds me of the shuks or marketplaces that I would regularly shop at in Israel, particularly Makane Yehuda.  See Below.

Crowd sourcing

Does anyone know what kind of cow this is?  There were several of them at the North Stonington Fair.  The markings were so unusual and uniform with the black center and grey outline.  How do they do that?

Friday at the Feeder

This little bovine was enjoying some fresh hay.  Must be nice to stand and sleep in your food and then throw it on your back.  Yum.

North Stonington Fair

Two weekends ago I went to the North Stonington Fair, the first of Connecticut's Agricultural Fairs.  It was fairly small but got some fun photos.  These are some vintage fair posters that were on display.  In the next few days you'll come along with me to the fair.

Pirates of Thimble Islands

Legend has it that the famed pirate Captain Kidd cut through the Thimble Islands and this area below was his hideaway.  You can read the history HERE.  The sticker above was on the tour boat that we took.

American Veterans Memorial Pier, Brooklyn, NY

After the visit to Tanoreen Restaurant we went over to the Pier because it was such a beautiful day in the neighborhood.  The NYC skyline was visible but a bit hazy.

Tanoreen Tale

It all started when my investment guy sent an email one day saying to watch the mail on a Tuesday some months ago.  Tuesday came and so did a cookbook named 'Olives, Lemons, and Za'atar'.  My investment guy was the one who watched my moolah when I lived in Israel for a year.  All he wanted in return was a rock from the Holy Land.  Which, of course, he got plus a couple of other items.  Lo and behold I read in the book that the author of the cookbook had a restaurant in Brooklyn named Tanoreen.
So yesterday I went into Brooklyn, NY to visit my next door neighbor when I lived in Jerusalem.  Ironic how we met and it's way to long of a story to tell.  I specifically went in to go to Tanoreen.
Here is Rawia Bishara the owner of Tanoreen and author of the cookbook and me.  She is a Palestinian from Nazareth and many of her dishes were her mother's recipes.  Absolutely fabulous food, you really need to go.  She came out of the kitchen for the photo, she was actually cooking.  Below is my friend Rabbi Carole and Rawia.

It's at 7523 3rd Avenue, Brooklyn, NY at the corner of Third Avenue and 76th Street.  I like the reflection of the buildings across the street in the window.

Thimble Islands

In the Stoney Creek area of Branford, CT are the Thimble Islands.  They are so tiny but a couple of them have several built on them.  They are close in proximity.  Some have fresh water supply and electricity and some still don't.

You can live there too!

The Happy Tax Collector

Well it all started when I got my Motor Vehicle Tax bill.  Here in Orange they want the ENTIRE bill paid at once.  I was not happy.  But being a good citizen I complied and wrote out my check then walked across the street to Town Hall.  I went up the flight of stairs and entered the Tax Collector's office.  On the door I saw the happy sunshine face and it made me smile.  Then I turned the corner and what a surprise!
It became the HAPPY TAX COLLECTOR'S OFFICE!
Very large ants were crawling all over the papered walls!

A plate of hamburgers and hotdogs albeit fake, was under the green tent so that the ants couldn't get to them.
Marshmellows were roasting in the background.  Fire Marshall - not a real fire!
The desks had been transformed into one large picnic basket and of course what's a picnic without a flyswatter and cooler in the background, just in case.  Looks like one of the women was taking a siesta but she didn't want to be in the photo.

Well I tell you I was so happy that I thought about paying much more than what I had been assessed.  But then, my right mind came back to me.

Thanks to the women in the Tax Collectors office for making my day just a bit brighter and paying taxes a more palatable event.  Photos were used with the permission.

Lighthouse at Woods Hole

Now we are back up on the Cape...sorry for bouncing around with all of these photos.  This is Nobska Lighthouse at Woods Hole.  Quite a spectacular day and sight.
